A Special Sunday Forum November 16
What do the rich symbols found at Delphi, with the Oracle, have to do with St. Paul and the continuing Christian tradition? How can we learn from the layers of mythology, history, theology, and reflection?
This Sunday, November 16 during the 9:30 forum time, the Greece pilgrims will share their thoughts and experiences from the recent trip. We are working to gather pictures and notes, and will share the highlights from travels.
The Compline service on November 18 will be held in the parish hall at the conclusion of the Thanksgiving Potluck. The service will move back to Zoom on Tuesday, November 25.
Thank you to everyone who has donated food for the Gainesville Hall Community Food Pantry located on Oak Street. We will continue our collection of canned fruit, canned green vegetables, canned corn, 3.5 oz cans of tuna, pasta noodles and empty egg cartons through November 30. Please give as you are able. Checks/cash donations can also be made to the church office or online.
Most of our food comes from the Atlanta Community Food Bank. We buy supplemental items from Aldi as needed and each church provides cheese, bread, butter and laundry soap during their rotation.
In our area we are fortunate to also have the Georgia Mountain Food Bank, which like the much larger Atlanta Community Food Bank, provides food at a lower cost to pantries like ours throughout the area. The community food drive sponsored by Hall County and Gainesville City government will benefit Georgia Mountain Food Bank.
We are requesting 1 dozen egg- egg cartons for our pantry because as we purchase eggs from the Atlanta Community Food Bank, we must re-package them for our clients. This will be an ongoing need for us, so please continue to bring this item to a collection bin set up in the Parish Hall.
Thanks to so many for reaching out to see how they can help with food delivery and assistance, and thanks to those who contributed additional funds to the discretionary account. If you would like to be included in the Grace Food Delivery Team, please submit your name and contact information on the form at the link below and we can be in touch.
Grace Church Friends of Music will welcome the Georgia Boy Choir to lead us in a Choral Eucharist on Christ the King Sunday, November 23, at 10:45 AM. In a Choral Eucharist service, certain texts of the liturgy are sung by the choir only. In the case of this service, Georgia Boy Choir will sing the Gloria, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei written by Grayston Ives in addition to other anthems throughout the service.
Georgia Boy Choir, under the direction of David White, is an internationally acclaimed touring choir comprised of middle school through high school boys. The Georgia Boy Choir is recognized as achieving the highest possible standard of musical excellence, while instilling in its members a life-long appreciation of music; an abiding love of beauty; a keen sense of respect for themselves and others; and the self-discipline necessary to become effective leaders in their families, their communities and the world.
