The Daughters of the King is an Order, founded by Margaret J. Franklin in 1885, for women in the Episcopal Church. Daughters undertake A Rule of Life, A Rule of Prayer and Service, and Evangelism. The Greek Fleury cross worn by members of the order is inscribed in Latin, “Magnanimiter Crucem Sustine” which translated means “With heart, mind and spirit, uphold and bear the cross.” The cross is an outward and visible sign of a deep and inward vow we take to become a Daughter of the King.
Our Grace Chapter was established in 1940. Seeking the will of God, we pray daily for unity in Christ’s Church, the spread of Christ’s Kingdom, for God’s blessing on our Order, the clergy, and the spiritual growth of our parish. We’ll soon be forming a twelve-week evening discernment group for all women of the parish interested in learning more about the order and it’s role here at Grace. Watch your newsletter for details.
In this season of reflection and renewal, we are delighted to explore poetry together as part of our The Artist’s Way forum. Creativity is one of the many ways we respond to God’s presence in our lives, and poetry offers us a language for wonder, lament, gratitude, and hope. Through carefully chosen words and attentive hearts, we discover that art can become prayer—and that imagination can deepen faith.
We are especially grateful for the guidance of Evelyn Asher, who facilitates Ekphrasis for the Masses, a monthly gathering held at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center. Now in its sixth year and open to the public, this inspiring series invites community members to write poems in response to works of art on exhibit. By pairing visual art with the written word, participants discover fresh ways of seeing—and of being seen.
Evelyn encourages each of us to notice where our pen may lead, trusting the creative journey as an unfolding gift. She is currently crafting her third poetry collection, drawing on the voices of her maternal ancestors from Ukraine—a beautiful testament to memory, heritage, and the enduring power of story.
As we enter this exploration of poetry together, may we be open to surprise, attentive to beauty, and willing to listen for the sacred in every line. We hope you will enjoy discovering where your own pen takes you.
The Sunday Forum meets in the parish hall on Sundays from 9:30 – 10:30 AM.
The Grace Church nursery, located in the Children of Grace wing, is available to all children age 4 and under on Sunday mornings. The nursery will now be open during the Christian Education hour and the 10:45 AM service worship service – from 9 AM until noon.
Friends of Music is pleased to welcome Will Buthod to Grace Church on Sunday, March 15 at 4 PM.
Will Buthod, pianist, organist, composer, and conductor, has worked in church ministry for the past 27 years. Buthod is known for employing a wide range of styles to fit any given situation, and is in demand in multiple areas, from Gospel to Salsa and Bluegrass. Outside his role as Minister of Music at Holy Trinity, Buthod serves at Candler School of Theology (Emory University), as Director of the gospel choir, Candler Voices of Imani.
His organ recital will be followed by a Choral Evensong for the Feast of Saint Patrick. Sung at the close of day in Cathedrals and churches all over the world, Choral Evensong focuses on the ancient practice of singing evening prayers. The congregation listens, joins in the hymns, and adds their own prayers to those of the choir.
A reception will follow in the parish hall.
The next Outdoor Eucharist will be March 22 at Linwood Nature Preserve. The outdoor service will meet at 8:15 AM, at the same time as the regular Rite I Holy Eucharist in the nave. By holding both services concurrently, we aren’t adding anything extra to the schedule—we’re simply creating more space for imagination, connection, and the movement of the Spirit.
We will gather in the nave on Tuesday, March 24 at 6:00 PM for meditation, stillness, and healing with Rebecca Turk.
We know that everyone can benefit from a time of reflection and deep meditation, and all are welcome to participate—and bring a friend to share the experience with.
For the most restful experience, bring your yoga mat, a blanket, and any bolster or pillow you prefer and experience the sound bath resting in Savasana. You may also choose to experience it sitting in the pews, and you’re welcome to bring a cushion or pillow to make you more comfortable.
The March 24 sound bath at Grace is free and open to the community. Doors will open at 5:30 PM.
Look ahead to upcoming opportunities for prayer, worship, and community!
