VBS Registration Continues

Kids in rising PreK-5th grade are invited to join us June 21, 22, and 23 from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM for VBS. This year’s theme is “Food Truck Party; On a Roll with God”. Kids will explore praying as Jesus taught us, “Give us this day our daily bread” and remember all the ways God provides for our needs.

Our Last Best Act

Thanks to all of you who attended the special Summer Sunday Forum featuring Mallory McDuff talking about her most recent book, Our Last Best Act. It was certainly an informative and thought provoking discussion of the issues surrounding planning for the end of our lives to protect the people and places that we love.

Unfortunately, the Cathedral Bookstore was not there to offer copies of the book for purchase as planned so that Mallory could sign them while she was here. So, we are providing a link to Malaprop’s Bookstore in Asheville. They have signed copies of the book available for sale and, if you want your book personalized, use the Order Comments field on the checkout page to provide the name(s) to which the book should be autographed. (Ex. To Stuart and Lisa) Mallory will personalize your book and they will ship it directly to you.

As an option, you can get an unsigned copy very quickly via Amazon.

Prayer Yoga

Prayer Yoga classes will not meet on Monday, June 13. Participants are welcome to join the Thursday class instead! Chair yoga meets Thursdays at 10:00 AM and on your mat yoga meets at 11:00 AM. The zoom link can be found in the newsletter email.

Prayer & Parchment

A reminder that Prayer and Parchment will not meet in June. This monthly space to explore our practice of prayer and texts and resources that we have found meaningful in our lives, returns next month.

With Enormous Gratitude

You may have noticed on Sunday mornings that there is always a couple or a family who walk up to the altar carrying a small sort of silver bowl. These are our oblation bearers, the ones who bring up the gifts of the people, in this case, bread or hosts that will be consecrated at the Eucharist. The oblation bearers walk up with the usher who brings the gifts we have offered God for the welfare of the community and world, and all of these gifts represent us, “our souls and bodies,” as we say in our prayers. The word “oblation” means the gifts that we offer, and it is a prayerful reminder that our lives belong to God. I want to thank all those who serve in this way for our parish.

Annie and Robert Jones, Dan and Amy Scott, Joey and Meredith West, Stephanie Wells, Jimbo and Denise Wilkins, Callie and Kevin Flack, Sally and Zach Pittman—and all those who are willing to step in at a moments notice and fill in on many days!

Blessings,
Stuart

We are taking the opportunity over the next few weeks/months to highlight some of Grace Church’s ministry groups and thank all the parishioners who share their gifts with our community.

Save the Date: Day in the Mountains at Vogel

Mark your calendars for our annual Day in the Mountains & Picnic Lunch at Vogel State Park in Blairsville on Saturday, July 30. Since 2004 Grace Church has gathered at the end of the summer to enjoy the cooler mountain air next to Trahlyta Lake for lunch, fellowship, and outdoor fun. Located at the base of Blood Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest, with an elevation of 2,500 feet, Vogel is a great spot to spend a hot summer day. Details are coming soon, we hope to see you at Vogel!

Save the Date

Look ahead to upcoming opportunities for prayer, worship, and community!
