News for June 29: Baseball Night, Park Lecture, and more

Baseball Night

Sunday, June 29 is the deadline to pay for baseball tickets! Join a group from Grace at Coolray Field on Friday, July 18 to watch the Gwinnett Stripers take on the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. Game time is 7:05 PM and fireworks will follow.

Tickets are $18 each. Sign up at the link below!

Communion

We are enjoying fresh baked bread for Communion during June and July! The bread on June 29 is lovingly made by Jim Bradley. The wine is Chimney Red, given by Larry Lykins, Jr. from his family vineyard in Ellijay, Cartecay Vineyards

If you’d like to contribute three bottles of your favorite red wine (Georgia/local winery preferred), please contact Fr. Stuart!

A Summer with the Psalms

Each week’s sermon in June and July focuses on the psalm appointed for the day. This is a wonderful opportunity to delve more deeply into this rich resource in our practice of faith.

June 29: Psalm 77:1-2, 11-20

Introducing the Park Lecture

As you may remember, last October, we instituted the Park Lecture as a yearly space to honor the work and presence of the Rev. Dr. Cynthia Park and Jack Park and their decade with us at Grace. To give thanks for them, this annual lecture will invite a speaker to lead a retreat and conversation space that intentionally explores the power of story, the Biblical narrative, and our practice of faith. It is a wonderful way to honor Cynthia and Jack’s presence and their deep concern for well-being and spiritual growth.

The lecture will be a key component of the ongoing work of the School for Prayer and Spiritual Practice at Grace as we continue to develop a wide spectrum of opportunities for the parish and community that nurtures our practice of faith.

Cynthia will lead this year’s inaugural retreat, and I invite you to save the date now! We will gather Saturday, August 9, from 9 AM – 3 PM in the Parish Hall.

Men’s Ministry: Thirsty Third Tuesday

The T3 men’s group has changed its meeting location to Cork It (118 Main St SW) on the Gainesville square. Open to all men of the parish, the group meets at 7:00 PM on the third Tuesday each month for ice breakers followed by theological discussion loosely based on Bryan Berghoef’s “Pub Theology” format. Bring ideas for discussion topics that interest you, and join us for the next meeting on July 15 at Cork It.

It’s That Time of the Year Again!

Supply Drive for Hall County Schools

From now until July 25 we will be collecting school supplies for students attending Lula, Myers, and Tadmore Elementary Schools in Hall County. Our goal is to pack at least 50 backpacks for these children!

Please consider helping in any of the following ways:

  1. Pick up school supplies and drop them off at church. Items such as paper, spiral notebooks, pencils, colored pencils, pocket folders, large glue sticks, erasers, crayons, facial tissue, wet wipes, and sanitizer may be brought to the parish office or dropped off in the nave on Sunday. full list
  2. Contribute a monetary donation by sending a check made payable to Grace Episcopal Church, with “school supplies” noted in the memo line, to the office at 422 Brenau Avenue, Gainesville, GA 30501. You may also place a check in the offering plate on Sundays. An online contribution can be made by clicking this link: Make a Contribution Select “Outreach” as the contribution type and note “school supplies” in the memo line.

Please contact Karen Takada from Grace Church Outreach Ministry with questions.

Help Stuff Backpacks

We’ll gather in the parish hall at 10 AM on Saturday, July 26 to stuff backpacks full of donated supplies. All are invited to come and help!

The backpacks will be blessed on Sunday and then taken to Lula, Myers, and Tadmore Elementary Schools prior to the first day of school.
