Community Update

Fr. Stuart hosted a Facebook live conversation this past Wednesday evening to share updates from the diocese regarding next steps for our parish communities, and what that means for us at Grace Church. If you were unable to attend, you can view the video and read the notes on our website. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Beware of Scams

Scammers have recently contacted several Grace Church parishioners (and even Fr. Stuart) claiming to be a fellow parishioner and asking for money. The request has come by text message but these types of “person in need” scams are also commonly attempted through email or social media messages. They can seem quite legitimate but please don’t ever send money or gift cards unless you can verify the identity of the person asking by some other means than the one used to contact you. (i.e. if you get a text message, look up the person in the Grace Church directory and call the number listed there) If you are unsure and/or unable to verify, you are welcome to ask Fr. Stuart for assistance.

Be aware that scammers are also using the coronavirus pandemic to take advantage of others, you can visit the consumer financial protection bureau for information.

Family Promise

To meet the growing need in our community, Family Promise is taking donations to make Crisis Response Food Bags for anyone who needs one. Items needed are: dried beans (lentil, pinto, black), bags of rice, canned tuna, chicken and vienna sausage, dried pasta and canned pasta sauce, lance peanut butter crackers, individually bagged snacks (such as raisins, crackers, cookies), granola and cereal bars, peanut butter in plastic jars, jelly in plastic jars, cereal, cartons of milk that can be stored at room temperature, brown paper grocery bags.

If you would like to help, items can be purchased from the Amazon COVID 19 wishlist or it can be dropped off at the center (3606 McEver Rd.) and placed on a table outside near the main door. Please call Family Promise at 770-535-0786 with any questions.

Take a Holy Hike with the Psalms

These days, for me, spending a little time outside each day is essential. It helps me feel more grounded, and reminds me that the Great Creator is still at work, and is with me, even now. I also love spending a little time with the Psalms, because there’s a Psalm for everything I’m feeling these days. So why not combine them? Take a hike (or a walk around your neighborhood or yard) and let your soul be fed by both Scripture and the natural world. Below are some Psalm excerpts you might use to get you started. Or pick your favorites. Happy Hiking!

Graduate Recognition

Grace Church typically honors all graduates from high school, college, and graduate school each spring. Although nothing is typical right now, we are still planning to produce our annual Graduate Recognition bulletin! The publication will be provided as a printable .pdf document link in one of the May issues of our email newsletter. High school graduates will also be recognized at a 10:45 AM worship service on a Sunday in the future when we are able to be together again in person!

If you will graduate (or have a child graduating) this spring/summer, please submit the online information form on or before Sunday, May 3. Information submitted after the deadline will not appear in the printable bulletin but high school graduates will still be recognized at church.

Virtual Community Bulletin Board

Grace parishioners – do you own or work for a company that has come up with creative solutions to continue to safely serve customers? We’d be happy to post that information on our new virtual community bulletin board. Send information to Jennifer Williams.
