Worship is the foundation of our commitment to Jesus Christ and the center of life at Grace Church. We celebrate Eucharist
(Holy Communion) twice on Sundays and once each Wednesday afternoon. Healing services are held after the second service on Sunday mornings and after the Wednesday afternoon service. Special services are offered during Lent, Holy Week, Easter, Advent, and Christmas, and at various other times during the year.
Nursery
The nursery is located in the children's education wing and is available to all children from birth to four years of age. The nursery is open during Sunday worship services, for Great Wednesday
(GWAG) programs and other major functions, as well as certain
meetings.
Children's Chapel
Children learn by doing, so if they are going to participate in the worship services they have to learn by worshipping. Therefore, children age 3 - 6 participate in Children's Chapel on Sundays
from 10:45 - 11:15 AM. Children’s Chapel follows the Prayer Book Service of the Word and includes a creed, confession, prayers of the people,
the Lord’s Prayer, and a story that is based on the Gospel lesson for the day.
Music is an integral part of the worship experience. Children join their parents in
church at announcement time. Children's Chapel meets in room
210 of the CE/Children's wing, just down the hall from the
church nursery. Note: Children who are three years of age by September 1—grade 1 are invited to participate in Children's Chapel. A parent should accompany their three-year-old.
Lectionary Readings
Grace Church began using the Revised Common
Lectionary for Sundays beginning on Advent I of 2003. If you'd like to read the Gospel of the Week you may click on the link in the
left navigation bar. The other readings for the week can be found
here.
You may compare this version with the Sunday Lectionary here.
Acolytes assist the clergy and other worship leaders with our worship services on Sundays and at other times. All youth in grades six through twelve are invited to serve as an acolyte. Initial and ongoing training with regards to duties is provided. Contact
the parish office to express interest in serving as an acolyte.
Ushers
work on teams of four to assist in the non-clergy aspects of
worship services, including greeting and seating parishioners,
collecting the offertory, and assisting parishioners during
communion.
Lectors
assist in public worship by reading the Word of God.
Lay
Readers are volunteers trained and licensed under authority of
the bishop. Prayers
of the People This group meets six times per year to
write the prayers that will be used in the services during the
church seasons. The group also recruits, schedules, and trains lay
people to lead the intercessions on Sunday mornings. Chalice
Bearers assist the clergy in public worship by
administering consecrated wine. Altar
Guild The Altar Guild prepares the altar for all
services and cares for the linen and the silver. Flower
Guild The Flower Guild plans, orders, and arranges
flowers for services in the nave and chapel, including weddings,
memorial services, and special receptions in the parish hall. Brass
Guild The Brass Guild is responsible for polishing the
brass in the sanctuary and the chapel. Needlework
Guild The Needlework Guild beautifies worship spaces at
Grace Church in ways which enhance the liturgical experience of
all that worship there. On May 2, 2004 Grace Church dedicated the
kneelers stitched by the guild over a period of 22 months. Take a
look at them here. |
