The rose is found often in Gothic architecture, and represents the Messianic promise, the nativity of Christ, the virgin Mary (her rose is white for purity), and martyrdom (a red rose).

Becky Whitmire dedicates her stitching to her good friend Priscilla, without whose encouragement and instruction thirty years ago she would not have been able to participate in this project. Becky’s daughter, Mary, took several stitches in her kneeler’s top and her husband, Mike, took one stitch.
Jane Shockley wrote: “What a wonderful year it was working on my boxing band. There were times I thought I would never finish, but finish I did. I am glad to have had the opportunity to contribute to these beautiful kneelers and make new friends in the church.”
