An Angel for Caroline

The Outreach Committee of Grace Church recently held a used book sale to raise funds to help a long-time parishioner build a home for herself and her mother in Uganda. For those of you who do not know Caroline, she emigrated from Uganda to the USA about 20 years ago, settling in Gainesville and immediately becoming a member of Grace. During the time she lived here, Caroline earned her GED, worked hard to support herself and tried tirelessly to obtain a permanent visa. In March, 2007, at her last hearing (and last chance) her request was denied and she was deported to Uganda. She is presently living in a very small house with her mother with no electricity or running water. The Outreach Committee wants to help her build a new home.

Thanks to the support of parishioners and the Gainesville/Hall County community, just over $6,000 has been raised thus far, but our goal is to reach $13,000. An anonymous donor in Atlanta, who knew and loved Caroline, has said she will match any amount up to $13,000 that we end up raising. This woman is proof that angels appear when least expected.

We hope that you will consider opening your heart and pocketbook to help.  Caroline touched many lives during her years in Gainesville, and we believe there are many who will contribute $20 to help her now. A gift of any amount will make you an Angel for Caroline.

If you want to contribute, please write your check made payable to Grace Church, with Caroline’s name on the memo line. Your check may be mailed to 422 Brenau Avenue, Gainesville, GA 30501. Thank you so much.
